![]() Project Highlights
Location and History Area 1 is located in the CMB of Labrador, 1.5 kilometres southwest of C Zone. It is a 2 kilometres long zone of radiometric anomalies and widespread surface mineralization and was identified as a potential exploration target by company geologists in 2005. Geology Uranium mineralization occurs within heavily oxidized, mafic volcanic breccias of the Joe Pond Formation. It is fracture controlled and associated with quartz carbonate veining with pyrite and chalcopyrite throughout. The geological and structural settings, as well as the alteration and mineralization styles, are very similar to those found at C Zone. Company geologists suspect that Area 1 forms part of the western extension of the C Zone. This is supported by both geological and geophysical data sets. Previous Exploration Work During the 2005 exploration season, Area 1 was identified as a high priority target using radiometric maps and a surface sampling program. Three boulders exhibiting secondary uranium staining returned 5.613% U3O8, 5.778% U3O8 and 6.828% U3O8. A total of 1, 543 metres in 15 holes was drilled in the summer of 2006, which helped to further delineate the zone. Thirty holes (3,365 metres) drilled in 2007 have expanded the zone of known uranium mineralization. In addition, EM and IP surveys have been conducted to locate future drilling targets. Area 1 has now been defined over a minimum strike length of 600 metres and remains open. Please click here for drilling results from Area 1 Examples of some of the better intersections from 2006 and 2007 drilling include:
The uranium zone at Area 1 occurs along a 4.5 kilometre long mineralized corridor that also includes the C Zone and Armstrong. Exposure is generally poor along the 4.5 kilometre long structure, but it does outcrop at the C Zone where it has been drilled for 1500 metres of strike length. The zone outcrops again at Area 1 and at Armstrong, which are located 1500 metres and 3000 metres, respectively, along strike to the southwest.
Current Exploration Work A total of 6,000 m of drilling under the direction of the Northstar Division is planned for the remainder of 2008. Further testing the continuity of mineralization along the 4.5 km long mineralized trend that includes C Zone, Area 1 and Armstrong is one of the goals of this drill program. In addition to drilling, extensive geological mapping and trenching programs have been designed for the C Zone - Armstrong Corridor. | |||||||||
